Hi, I'm Claire Webber and first of all I'd like to welcome you to absoluteconfection.co.uk, the place to visit for bespoke designer cake creations in the Devon and Cornwall area. I have over 25 years of experience in the catering industry and have been baking cakes throughout this time, starting with birthday cakes for my children (who are now all grown up yet still request a new creation every year!) which progressed into wedding cakes, christmas cakes and cakes for all events. You name an occasion and I have probably baked a cake for it! This love of baking took me to undertake a recognised qualification at City College Plymouth, where I achieved both merit and distinction levels in cake decoration. I am also a member of the British Sugar Craft Guild. I specialise in wedding cakes although provide cakes for all occasions. Situated on the Devon and Cornwall border I am in a prime location to serve both counties and am happy to discuss any requirements - all ideas are welcome, nothing is too big or too small! Please view my gallery to see a small selection of the cakes I have made to date and do not hesitate to visit the contact page to get in touch with any queries or requests you may have. I also offer a range of cooking lessons for individuals or small groups. Again, please browse my site for more details

The hotel has been owned and run since 1961 by Anne Voss-Bark. A former winner of the Woman Hotelier of the Year Award, she was honoured in 1994 to receive the M.B.E. for services to tourism. She is herself a keen fisherman and was recently presented with a lifetime Achievement Award for services to Angling. In 2006 she celebrated the prestigious award presented from the Good Hotel Guide of "Sporting Hotel of the Year." Her book "West Country Fly Fishing," a collection of essays by experts and friends including Ted Hughes, Dermot Wilson, Brian Clarke and her late husband Conrad Voss Bark, is considered a classic. The kitchen is headed by Master Chef of Great Britain, Steven Pidgeon supported by a talented and enthusiastic young team. The Arundell Arms fishing is looked after by David Pilkington and Tim Smith who are not only outstanding fishermen but have taught over thousands of men and women, boys and girls to fish. We are particularly proud that many of our staff have been with us for many years and one of our greatest pleasures is when our guests return.

The lush and plentiful pastures enable our grazing herds to produce deliciously rich and creamy milk, perfect for making our range of exclusive, award-winning West Country Farmhouse Cheese. Our cheese is made from milk from our own herd on the Estate and from local Dorset herds strictly within a thirty mile radius. We have excellent working relationships with our dairy farming partners and are proud to be supporting our local economy.

The Pie business really began when we bought an Aga in 2006. I really enjoyed using the Aga and it’s different way of cooking encouraged me to experiment and develop my cooking skills. I have also recently qualified in Level 2 Professional Cookery (Preparation and Cooking) from East Devon College. The idea behind my products was to create good quality and great tasting food made by using as much local produce where possible, thus producing a quality end product and in doing so helping local Farmers and businesses whilst keeping the food miles to a minimum. With two children, it was my priority to ensure the end product was as tasty and as healthy as possible, my thoughts were that if my pies, quiches and cakes were good enough for my family they will be good enough for your family as well.

Do you know what the Germans like most in the morning? A warm sour dough bread, some bread rolls or just a small sweet snack. It is a traditional German thing you can't beat. But next to it more and more English are interested in our sour dough and mixed rye bread because it is something with a special taste. And don't forget, a wheat (wheat glutelin) allergy is by far not so common in Germany as over here.

Anish Thankappan who is originally from Kerala in Southern India has over 20 years experience in the food and restaurant business having run his own restaurant and food businesses in India. However in March 2007, whilst working in the tourist industry his life was to change for good when Babs, on an extended sabbatical, walked into the restaurant where he was working! The attraction was electrifying and to cut a very long story short, Anish moved to the UK in November 2007 and their wedding followed in February 2008. Anish’s style of cooking brings the East and the West together – his skills encompass the delicious food of Kerala, (which is totally different from most of the westernized Indian restaurants in the UK), to Western fine dining.

Dartmoor Brewery is the highest brewery in England at 1400 feet above sea level. We moved into a state of the art new purpose built building in 2005 with equipment manufactured in Germany. In 2010 we installed two more Fermenting Vessels to increase capacity at this site to 300 brewers barrels (1200 nine gallon casks) per week. Established in 1994 by Simon Loveless, a former Gibbs Mew and Hop Back brewer, local demand has allowed the brewery to establish our popular JAIL ALE and DARTMOOR IPA (Inmates Pale Ale) beer brands with a very strong local following. It is an extremely exciting time for the brewery and all the local businesses associated with us. With support for the project from The Dartmoor National Park Authority and the quality of our products seeing off competition from both the larger regional and national brewers our brands continue go from strength to strength. We are continuing to make a name for ourselves as the only genuine brewer of traditionally brewed ales on Dartmoor.

Our Farm All of our animals are raised outside and fed a natural diet and allowed to roam free on the Dorset chalk hills on the North side of the beautiful Bride Valley. Our prize winning animals are matured slowly and naturally, to ensure flavour, succulence and quality. Our Sheep We have 18 different breeds of sheep including North Ronaldsay sheep which are more rare than the Giant Panda. We operate a staggered lambing programme so that there are lambs throughout the spring and summer into the Autumn. This ensures that we can give close attention to each and every one. Many of the sheep will feed from your hand and some will come for a walk, just like a dog. Our Pigs We have Berkshire pigs, British Lop and Oxford Sandy and Black pigs, also known as Plum Pudding pigs, because of their markings. We hope to have some Gloucester Old Spots another British Lop and large Black very soon. All have individual characters and just love visitors, especially if you feed them fruit or vegetables. Our Products We offer a range of products from hand-spun wool, and sheepskins to fresh meat as well as other locally sourced products, such as cheese. Our animals are allowed to roam free and cared for throughout their lives to ensure uncompromised quality, flavour and succulence.

Risdon Farm, Okehampton is a location known by most Cross Rhythms readers. It is the site for Cross Rhythms SW and this year more than 3,000 people will journey there in July to enjoy a weekend of music and ministry in the picturesque, rolling farmland located on the edge of Dartmoor. But Risdon Farm is not an everyday area of commercial farmland, playing annual host for bands and CCM enthusiasts before reverting back to cows, pigs, farm workers and the labyrinthine demands of EEC farming policy. Dave Cross, worker with the Gilead Foundation housed at Risdon Farm, waves an expansive hand across the acres of farmland as he speaks.

Hunters Brewery, Ipplepen, is situated in the heart of the Teignbridge countryside, in Beautiful Devon. The photo above is the view from our brewery at Bulleigh Barton Farm. Hunter's brewery was established in September 2008. It all started after a bad week at work, I started to seriously think about this long held dream of becoming a master brewer and starting a micro-brewery. For many months I investigated buying existing brewery’s, but I soon realised that I would be happier starting my own with my stamp on it. Our aims are to produce quality real ales using only the finest grade A materials whilst keeping costs to a minimum. Being a micro-brewery we have a discounted excise duty and as part of our company ethos and services we pass these savings onto our customers. Another aim is to keep Hunter's Ale local to Devon to reduce ale miles, keep delivery costs down to a minimum and sustain the Local economy

Hello my dears. I’m Olive and I‘m here to tell you about the history of Langage Farm. Well, it’s actually mentioned in the Domesday book and has remained a working farmstead for over 900 years. However, in 1980 the Harvey family started to produce clotted cream for a local shop and that’s where it started. Today the company employs nearly 50 people and I am part of a herd of over 250 Jersey and Guernsey cows. Together we produce cream and ice cream and yogurts and...and..well...read on and find out more.

The Cornish Crisp Company is making the first truly Cornish crisp - made in Cornwall using Cornish potatoes all year round. The Cornish Crisp Company has been a dream for many years and it began to become a reality during the summer of 2008 when a crisp manufacturing factory in Dorset came up for sale. The factory was eventually dismantled and brought to Cornwall in Spring 2009. One of the aims of the company is to add value to Cornwall's potato crop and we also employ local people and try to benefit local organisations. All businesses have an impact on the environment and we are striving to reduce ours by recycling as much as we can, sourcing locally wherever we can and cutting down on our energy usage. The potatoes are not peeled and so our main waste product will be our used sunflower oil, which we will use to produce bio-diesel and power our vehicles.
